Taking a leaf from our first perfomance with Cuckfield & Lindfield Rotary the evening will include a pudding auction (by table). The highest bid a table will win the most desirable dessert!
As a co-production with Cuckfield & Lindfield Rotary Club “Murder On Air!” by Andrew Hull was first presented on Friday October 7th.
This first CDS murder mystery evening included dinner, provided by Rotary, with CDS performing the dramatic parts of the evening.
Featuring a cast from some CDS regulars plus more of the best from Hurstpierpoint Players , Henfield Theatre Company and The Victory Players in Balcombe all agreed that this was a very superior Murder Mystery!
With some high class acting and some upper class accents (among others) he murder mystery was a great short play accompanying a fine dinner, with a break for a pudding auction where donated desert courses were bid for by different tables.
Bringing back the golden days of radio Murder On Air is a drama set at a 1957 recording of a popular BBC Light Programme sitcom, Major Siddlington Rides Out.
All profits from the evening will be going to local mental health charities jointly selected by Rotary and CDS.
The venue was the Millennium Hall in the Village Centre at Scaynes Hill.
Doors open 7:00pm, show starts 7:30pm, carriages 10:30pm.
Murder on Air!
By Andrew Hull
In the 1950’s television was still the upstart progeny of the nation’s favourite medium – radio!
The play is set in 1957 at the BBC recording of the final episode of popular radio sitcom after a run of seven years.
Once the BBC’s top comedy “Major Siddlington Rides Out”, is the story of a retired army officer with more than an eye for the ladies, as well as a highly suspicious wife. Somehow, often with the help of his butler, Jacobs, he always seems to escape discovery.
At one time the UK audience alone was over ten million, but after changes in writers, and the removal of some old characters the listener numbers have begun to decline and “Major Sidd” is due to draw to a close with the recording of a special episode titled “The Major’s Last Ride”.
A select audience has been invited to witness this historic event and meet the cast and crew at an after party, However, tensions are running high and the cast and crew are not quite the happy family that the public have been led to believe…
Cast
